Introducing: The Eccentric Picture Book Newsletter

Unconventional Guide to Writing, Drawing, and Publishing Peculiar Children’s Books

It’s Going to be One Wacky Illustrated Journey

Let’s make some books. Some weird books. Some weird children’s picture and illustrated books. The kind kids will remember forever, and end up reading to their kids decades from now. A little funnier, a little more creative, a little scarier, a little more daring than where most mainstream picture books dare to go anymore.

The kids are craving it. And truth be told, so are the parents!

So, let’s unfold just enough details today to make subscribing to the newsletter make sense:

  • I’ll be building books in public

  • I’ll be publishing this newsletter at every milestone.

  • You’ll see everything, start to finish.

Weird Expectations

I’ll be producing books, yes, but that is not what’s really going on.

It’s really about a SYSTEM that produces books. Marketing, planning, writing, drawing, producing, publishing. That’s the big benefit for you, the reader.

Especially if you are…stuck!

The Mire of Stuckness

Where are you in your book creation journey?

  • Don’t know where to start?

  • Don’t know what to write about?

  • Don’t know how to draw?

  • Don’t know anything about how to put a book together?

  • Don’t know how this will work out from start to finish?

None of these are a problem.

Let’s put it another way: follow this newsletter long enough and you will write, draw, and publish your own illustrated children’s book.

I have designed and published so many books over decades. Your advantage is my experience, if you join me.

Many Books Lead to the Best Books

The biggest problem with any aspect of children’s book creation is that every decision is open ended and 100% subjective.

You need to learn to make books, not make one specific book.

Single books don’t win the book game. Multiple books do.

You in fact are going to need to make a few books to make that single book a creative and technical success.

Once you understand the process, and have gone from “where do I start”, to hitting the “publish live” button on Amazon, Shopify, or anywhere you want to sell your book, you will have gained the skill to write, illustrate, and publish an entire book and control every aspect of its production.

What’s Next?

That’s a tough call.

So many directions to go in at first. But will go in them all, until a book is produced.

And then we will do it again.

This is all going to happen “live”, and you’ll see it all take shape, right here in this newsletter.

But…what kind of book, exactly, will we produce together? Why so “weird”?

Let’s save that for another newsletter! There is method to the madness.

Until next time…

Thanks for coming by. Get excited for your book project. This will be worth your time and labor of love!
